Sr Principal RFIC Design Engineer
QorvoJob Title
Sr Principal RFIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design and development of RF low-noise amplifiers (LNA) and RF switches for cellular applications, including standalone modules and their integration into multi-chip modules (MCM). Work closely with module customers, layout designers, and lab technicians to deliver tape-outs, validate performance, and achieve first-pass success.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting specifies more than 10 years of RFIC design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include circuit design, verification, lab correlation, and cross-functional coordination to deliver production-quality RFICs on aggressive schedules.
- Design and develop RF LNAs and switches for cellular applications using SOI, BiCMOS or similar technologies.
- Support standalone die designs and integration into multi-chip modules (MCM).
- Collaborate with module customers to define die deliverables and optimize the RF chain.
- Work with layout designers to apply RF layout best practices.
- Design and reuse analog blocks (bandgap, LDO, bias circuits) as needed.
- Create test laminates, run measurements, troubleshoot lab issues, and perform simulation vs measurement correlation.
- Conduct peer design reviews and document expected and actual results.
- Provide regular program updates and communicate progress and issues clearly.
- Deliver to aggressive project schedules and work independently when required.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; listed are required items followed by preferred additions.
- Extensive RFIC design experience, specifically with LNA and/or RF switch architectures (posting indicates >10 years).
- Proven experience with simulation and EM tools: HFSS, Cadence toolflow, and Keysight ADS.
- Strong background in RF measurements and device characterization; ability to correlate sim vs. measured results.
- Deep knowledge of device physics and trade-offs relevant to LNA and switch configurations.
- Expertise in linear and nonlinear simulation techniques to achieve predictable first-pass results.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Nice-to-have: RF PA and large-signal circuit design experience; track record of releasing production LNAs and switches for mobile applications.
Education Requirements
M.S. (MSEE) or Ph.D. in an RF-related field.
