Sr Principal Engineer - Test Development and Automation
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
Sr Principal Engineer - Test Development and Automation
Role Summary
Member of the Test Technology and Data Analytics Development team responsible for defining and delivering automated ATE test program generation tools and standardized test method libraries for analog and mixed-signal products. The role focuses on automation across multiple ATE platforms, low-level ATE coding, and improving test quality and cost.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Expect a senior engineer with extensive experience in ATE test program generation and automation (typical guidance: 10+ years of direct TPG automation experience; overall experience expectations described in Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include building and maintaining automated ATE test solutions and supporting product development teams.
- Define and develop automated ATE test solutions for new product development.
- Create and maintain Test Method Libraries to enable reuse and standardization across products and ATE platforms.
- Develop Test Program Automation to support differentiated test flows and market-specific insertions (Automotive, Commercial, Industrial) with a focus on coverage and cost-of-test.
- Extend automation beyond program generation to layers between testers and peripherals (tester/peripheral communications, data transfers).
- Update and improve existing code and automation solutions.
- Support NPD teams on ATE automation software issues and troubleshooting.
- Work with vendors on low-level automation code for ATE architectures (e.g., V93K, ETS, T2K, IFlex).
- Maintain test program generation utilities and standard test method libraries.
- Institute program audits and checks; identify quality issues and recommend HW/SW best practices to prevent test escapes.
- Act as the technical interface between ATE vendors, product engineering, and design teams to define automation requirements and checklists.
Requirements
Core technical and professional requirements. Degree specifics are listed under Education Requirements.
- At least 10 years of direct experience with test program generation (TPG) automation across multiple ATE platforms.
- Proficient in multiple programming languages for ATE and automation: C#, C++, Python, Java.
- Hands-on experience with ATE platforms and developing low-level ATE code.
- Practical knowledge of agentic AI systems, including LLM-based agents, tool use, and multi-agent workflows.
- Proven track record delivering reusable test code and automation frameworks.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors.
- Nice-to-have: experience with analog and mixed-signal test development, automotive and industrial product flows, and vendor-facing integration for ATE systems.
Education Requirements
Preferred degrees and associated experience: BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE with more than 20 years of product/test experience; or MSEE with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Fields referenced include Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering. No specific certifications are listed.
