Job Title
Sr Principal Engineer, CPU Design
Role Summary
Design and implement CPU RTL blocks from microarchitectural specifications, own block-level delivery for performance/timing/power/area and schedule, and collaborate with verification and physical design teams to meet project requirements.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to architecture-to-silicon convergence in a hybrid team environment (three days in office, two remote).
Experience Level
Senior β requires 20+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, verification support, and cross-discipline collaboration:
- Perform RTL design and implementation for CPU functional blocks per microarchitectural specs and project PPA targets.
- Drive block convergence for performance, timing, power, area, and schedule.
- Support verification: testbench, test plan and test content development, including performance validation.
- Collaborate with physical design and design-for-test teams to achieve PPA and testability goals.
- Debug designs using commercial simulators and waveform tools; resolve functional and implementation issues.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in RTL design practices and debugging techniques.
- Follow and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements
Core qualifications and skills required for successful candidates.
- 20+ years of relevant industry experience in RTL/CPU design and delivery.
- Experience in structural datapath and/or control logic design.
- Experience with CPU microarchitecture (at least one area).
- Proficiency in Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Proven debug skills with commercial simulators and waveform viewers.
- Experience working with physical design teams on convergence for PPA.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with modeling, verification, and physical design teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with low-power design techniques.
- Experience using scripting languages and regular expressions.
- Programming experience in assembly, C, or C++.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS) required. No specific field of study or certifications were specified. The posting also specifies 20+ years of relevant industry experience; no explicit "or equivalent experience" language was provided.
