Job Title
Sr. Principal, Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and lead development of highly integrated microwave and millimeter-wave RFICs across CMOS, SiGe BiCMOS or GaAs technologies. The role leads cross-functional efforts from system-level specifications through characterization and productization, and mentors other engineers.
The position involves customer technical interactions, RF board/module design, packaging selection and EM analysis, and leadership of engineers and layout designers to deliver production-ready RFICs.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Professional). See Education Requirements for stated experience expectations.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include technical design leadership, hands-on RFIC development, and productization activities.
- Lead design of highly integrated microwave and mmWave RFICs in CMOS, SiGe BiCMOS, or GaAs.
- Define system-level specifications, floorplanning, and drive IC characterization and productization.
- Lead and mentor a team of circuit designers and layout engineers; provide peer reviews.
- Participate in customer meetings and technical interchange sessions.
- Perform transistor-level layout and modeling support for RF designs when needed.
- Design RF boards and modules; select and simulate packaging; perform EM analysis on packages.
- Lead IC test, calibration, stabilization, and product qualification efforts.
- Write technical proposals and estimate development timelines; drive process and design improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Education requirements are listed separately below.
- Proficiency in RFIC and mmWave design techniques, including EM analysis of circuits and packages.
- Strong circuit design skills across power amplifiers, LNAs, filters, mixers, VCOs/PLLs, phase shifters, attenuators, switches, detectors, biasing and temperature compensation techniques.
- Deep understanding of noise, isolation, stability analyses, and stabilization techniques.
- Experience with design tools, interpretation of simulation results, and identifying/troubleshooting simulation errors.
- Knowledge of foundry processes and ability to perform trade studies for process selection.
- Experience with IC test methods, calibration, and implementation for RFIC products.
- Ability to mentor engineers and contribute to invention of new circuit design and simulation techniques.
Education Requirements
MSEE with 12 years overall experience, or Ph.D. with a minimum of 10 years overall experience.
