Role Summary

Senior ASIC physical design engineer responsible for defining and executing physical design flows, tooling, and methodology for IP and SoC tape-outs. You will work with cross-functional teams in Austin and globally to deliver advanced-node 5G silicon.

This is a hands-on, leadership role that combines technical execution, process definition, and mentoring of other engineers.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires extensive experience; posting specifies 10+ years of physical design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include delivering physical design work and establishing the site's flow and practices:

  • Define physical design flow, select tools, and establish methods and processes from the ground up.
  • Drive design execution at both IP and SoC levels; adapt focus to program needs.
  • Collaborate with design, CAD, verification, and cross-disciplinary teams to implement complex ASIC designs.
  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and mentor engineers; help build the local team and culture.
  • Work hands-on with advanced process node technology and drive methodology improvements across tape-outs.
  • Own problem resolution and ensure delivery under program timelines and constraints.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and demonstrated capabilities:

  • 10+ years of physical design experience in SoC, IP, or ASIC environments.
  • Deep expertise in one or more areas: PPA optimization, RTL checks & synthesis, floorplanning & routing, power & timing closure, or signoff.
  • Working knowledge of back-end disciplines such as EMIR, DFM, DFT, and power grid analysis.
  • SystemVerilog experience and semi-custom design background.
  • Strong scripting skills for automation and flow development.
  • Proven ability to drive execution, solve hard problems under program pressure, and collaborate across teams.
  • Mentoring and team-building experience.

Education Requirements

Minimum: BS in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Computer Engineering (CE). Higher degrees or equivalent technical experience are typically acceptable.

Compensation & Benefits (summary)

No specific salary values provided. The role includes eligibility for an annual bonus, health and dental plan options, 401(k) with company contributions and match, paid parental leave, vacation and holiday time, and other company-paid benefits.
