Sr. Memory Layout Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver physical memory layouts for SoC projects at advanced technology nodes. Lead memory layout implementation, floorplanning, verification and integration, and collaborate with SOC and library teams to meet quality and schedule targets.

Experience Level

Senior; minimum 5 years of relevant layout experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end memory layout delivery and integration into the chip design flow.

• Apply layout guidelines and process rules to produce manufacturable memory layouts.
• Perform floor-planning, hierarchical layout and chip integration for memory blocks.
• Plan signal and power to meet RC and reliability requirements.
• Run and resolve physical verification (DRC, LVS, ERC, antenna, electromigration) issues.
• Manage schedules, timelines and deliverables for assigned layout tasks.
• Lead technology reviews and document layout methodologies, flows and guidelines.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and coordinate with SOC/library teams.
• Adapt to new methodologies and communicate effectively across teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience.

• Minimum 5 years of strong layout experience in submicron CMOS processes (e.g. 7nm, 5nm, 3nm, 2nm).
• Proficiency with Cadence layout tools (Virtuoso/XL, VXL, or EXL) and Calibre verification tools.
• Experience in digital layout: standard cell, memory and I/O.
• Strong knowledge of physical verification flows (LVS, DRC, ERC, antenna, electromigration).
• Experience in floor-planning, hierarchical layout and chip integration.
• Understanding of memory architecture and RC-aware planning for signal and power.
• Ability to lead projects, work independently, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Nice-to-have: analog layout experience, memory compilers, SKILL or other scripting for layout automation, familiarity with AI/automation applied to layout.
