Sr. Manager, Firmware/FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Lead and manage a team of firmware and FPGA engineers responsible for developing embedded systems and digital designs. Translate program and system requirements into engineering tasks, schedules, and measurable deliverables while coordinating across hardware, software, program management, and manufacturing.

Experience Level

Senior — expected 10+ years of relevant experience in firmware, FPGA, embedded systems, or digital design and prior experience leading engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Manage team execution and cross-functional delivery of firmware/FPGA workstreams. Provide status, remove blockers, and ensure quality and compliance.

• Coach and support firmware/FPGA staff; set goals and oversee performance assessments.
• Translate system and program requirements into tasks, priorities, schedules, assignments, acceptance criteria, and measurable outcomes.
• Monitor execution, balance workload, remove barriers, manage risks, and implement corrective actions to meet commitments.
• Provide clear status, risk, and delivery forecasts to senior leadership.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with hardware, software, project engineering, program management, and manufacturing to align interfaces and handoffs.
• Ensure team adherence to the company Code of Ethics, conduct, and applicable compliance policies.
• Report and address quality problems or defects to enable corrective actions.

• 10+ years of relevant firmware, FPGA, embedded systems, or digital design experience.
• Experience leading, supervising, or managing firmware/FPGA or cross-functional engineering teams.
• Proven ability to convert high-level requirements into task plans, milestones, acceptance criteria, and measurable deliverables.
• Technical credibility in FPGA design, firmware development, hardware/software interfaces, integration, debugging, and release processes.
• Experience with engineering planning, schedule tracking, risk management, status reporting, and resource planning.
• Strong people leadership skills: coaching, delegation, accountability, feedback, and development.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting priorities, status, risks, and staffing needs to leadership.
• Some travel required.
• Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (BS or MS).
