Sr. FPGA Engineer
Everest ConsultantsJob Title
Sr. FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Remote senior FPGA engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing FPGA-based modules for advanced heterogeneous AI computing architectures. The role focuses on RTL and HLS design, system-level verification, hardware debug, and cross-functional collaboration to meet performance, power, and reliability targets.
Compensation is based on DOE; benefits noted in the posting include equity, medical insurance, and a 401(k).
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 8+ years of FPGA or digital-design experience with complex production or advanced-development systems.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering FPGA designs, verifying system behavior, and collaborating with other teams.
- Design and implement FPGA modules using RTL and HLS (C/C++).
- Perform system-level verification and debug on high-performance FPGA platforms.
- Integrate with host systems (PCIe, DMA, interrupts) and ensure host/software compatibility.
- Optimize designs for performance, power, timing closure, and reliability.
- Work on memory interfaces and subsystems (HBM/DDR), pipelining, buffering, and backpressure handling.
- Develop and maintain verification infrastructure: simulation, assertions, coverage, automated regression, and embedded logic analyzer usage.
- Participate in design reviews, create technical documentation, and define FPGA development best practices.
- Collaborate with architecture, software, and validation teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- 8+ years of FPGA or digital-design experience with production or advanced-development systems.
- Proven RTL design skills; hands-on experience with Verilog or equivalent HDLs.
- Practical HLS experience with C/C++ and familiarity with Vitis HLS or similar tools.
- Experience with PCIe-connected FPGA platforms, DMA, AXI4/AXI4-Lite/AXI4-Stream, and host integration.
- Strong understanding of memory subsystems (HBM/DDR), CDC, reset strategies, pipelining, buffering, and timing closure.
- Hardware verification and debug experience using simulation, assertions, coverage, automated regression, and ILA or equivalent tools.
- Experience with AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Linux, Python, Tcl, Git, and C/C++ host software.
- Ability to communicate clearly, collaborate across disciplines, and document designs and test results.
- Nice to have: familiarity with high-speed interfaces, RDMA/networking, multi-FPGA systems, and datacenter FPGA platforms (e.g., AWS F1/F2).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
