Sr. FPGA Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior FPGA engineer responsible for architecting, implementing, and verifying FPGA/digital firmware for advanced E‑beam inspection systems. The role sits on the electrical engineering team within KLA's Broadband Plasma/Global Products group and focuses on high-performance mixed-signal system integration from concept through production release.
Experience Level
Senior level. Minimum experience expectations vary by degree: Doctorate + 3 years; Master's + 6 years; Bachelor's + 8 years of related work experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, verification, and system integration of FPGA firmware.
- Architect and implement FPGA/digital designs for E‑beam inspection systems.
- Create test benches for simulation and perform timing analysis/closure.
- Develop, debug, and verify FPGA firmware and associated simulations.
- Define firmware requirements and drive projects from concept to production release.
- Collaborate with hardware, embedded software, mechanical, systems and manufacturing teams for subsystem and system integration and test.
- Produce technical documentation that meets quality standards and project timelines.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience with complex FPGA firmware designs.
- Proficiency in Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Experience with Xilinx tool flow (preferred) or Intel/Altera; familiarity with Vivado or equivalent.
- Experience with FPGA simulation tools such as VCS or ModelSim (or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of FPGA timing analysis and timing closure techniques.
- Hands-on use of lab equipment (logic analyzer, oscilloscope) for FPGA bring-up and debug.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces and protocols: PCIe, Aurora, DDR4, 10G, SPI, I2C, etc.
- Knowledge of networking concepts and embedded Linux build systems.
- Effective communicator, self-motivated, able to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
