Sr. Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Design, develop, and debug firmware for AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization as part of the Server Security Processor Firmware team. Deliver firmware features, test suites, and support bring-up for new processors while collaborating with internal teams, customers, and partners.
Location: Austin, TX. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 7+ years of relevant firmware, embedded software, or system bring-up experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware development, validation, and cross-team collaboration.
- Design, implement, and maintain low-level firmware and device drivers in C/C++.
- Develop test suites and validation infrastructure for new processors and features.
- Perform processor, board, and ASIC new-product bring-up and hardware debugging on target platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, customers, and partners to define requirements and resolve technical issues.
- Apply secure coding practices and implement security-related firmware functionality.
- Integrate and test firmware with virtualization environments, hypervisors, and the Linux kernel.
- Produce and maintain documentation, automated tests, and participate in code reviews.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proven low-level software or embedded firmware development experience.
- Strong proficiency in C and C++.
- Understanding of computer architecture and assembly-level programming and optimizations.
- Experience with processor, board, or ASIC new-product bring-up and hardware debug tools (e.g., JTAG).
- Experience with source control systems such as git and solid software engineering practices.
- Experience with RTOS or other embedded OS environments and strong debugging skills.
- Familiarity with secure coding processes and basic encryption concepts; security-focused development is essential.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience on x86 server platforms and with virtualization/hypervisors/VMs.
- Experience with Rust and GoogleTest framework.
- Experience with pre-silicon development on FPGAs or simulation environments.
- Familiarity with PCIe, TDISP, SPDM, IOMMU, Secure Boot, TPM, AES/DES/RSA, and AMD secure memory technologies.
- Experience with JTAG debuggers and other hardware debug tools.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
