Sr. Engineer, Performance Infrastructure

Role Summary

Join Tenstorrent's CPU design team to build and maintain infrastructure for performance analysis, correlation, and verification of a RISC‑V based CPU. The role partners with core architects and RTL teams to ensure design performance and validate results across pre‑ and post‑silicon phases.

This is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA.

Experience Level

Senior — expected senior engineering experience; specific years not stated. The company will assess level during interviews.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities focus on performance verification, correlation, and infrastructure improvements.

• Develop and maintain performance analysis and correlation infrastructure and tooling.
• Own the performance correlation framework: tracking, visualization, and analysis.
• Collaborate with RTL engineers and microarchitecture architects to meet performance targets and resolve miscorrelations.
• Integrate and improve compilation, simulation, and emulation flows for performance validation.
• Run and evaluate performance experiments; apply techniques to optimize power, performance, and area.
• Improve development workflows, verification methodologies, and design environment efficiency.

Requirements

• Must-have:
  • Proven problem-solving and systems debugging skills.
  • Strong C++ and Python programming experience.
  • Experience with compilation, simulation, and emulation tools used in processor development.
  • Familiarity with verification infrastructure and methodologies for CPUs.
  • Knowledge of high-performance CPU architecture and microarchitecture.
  • Ability to debug RTL and system logic across design hierarchies and pre‑silicon environments.
• Nice-to-have:
  • Experience with performance models, correlation between RTL and models, and visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with RISC‑V ISA and CPU performance tuning.
  • Experience optimizing power, performance, and area in processor designs.
