Sr. Engineer, CPU RTL Design
TenstorrentJob Title
Sr. Engineer, CPU RTL Design
Role Summary
Work on RTL and microarchitecture for a high-performance RISC-V CPU. The role focuses on implementing and optimizing CPU blocks to meet functional, timing, power, and area goals while collaborating with design verification (DV), physical design (PD), and performance teams.
This position is hybrid, based out of Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA.
Experience Level
Senior. The company may evaluate candidates during the interview and place them at an appropriate level; no explicit years-of-experience requirement is specified in the posting.
Responsibilities
Ownership and delivery of RTL and microarchitecture for CPU blocks; collaborate across engineering teams to achieve design targets.
- Design and implement RTL for portions of a high-performance RISC-V CPU (microarchitecture through RTL).
- Collaborate with DV, PD, performance, validation, and test teams to meet functional, timing, power, and silicon goals.
- Perform experiments and analyze results to optimize power, performance, and area.
- Debug RTL and logic across multiple hierarchies and in pre- and post-silicon environments.
- Improve RTL development environment, flows, tools, and methodologies to increase engineering efficiency.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands-on RTL/CPU design experience required.
- Proven experience in CPU microarchitecture (examples: Rename, Scheduler, ROB, Load/Store, Branch Prediction, Cache, or Datapath).
- Strong RTL coding skills (Verilog or VHDL) and practical experience with simulation, synthesis, and power-analysis tools.
- Ability to debug complex RTL/logic across hierarchies and during pre-/post-silicon phases.
- Experience defining microarchitecture, writing design specifications, and making performance-driven trade-offs.
- Track record of collaborating with verification, physical design, and performance teams to converge designs for timing and power.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with RISC-V CPU implementations.
- Familiarity integrating open-source and industry-standard tools into RTL flows.
- Experience driving RTL experiments and measurement-driven optimization for power, performance, and area.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
