Senior Engineer, AI Kernel

Role Summary

Develop and optimize software used by Tenstorrent IP customers to integrate AI and RISC-V hardware into their systems. Work spans bare-metal firmware, device drivers, system-level tools, SDKs, and APIs to ensure reliable customer bring-up and deployment.

This is a hybrid role based out of Toronto, ON; Austin, TX; or Santa Clara, CA. You will work closely with hardware engineering, IP delivery, product, and customer teams to deliver robust and high-performance software for diverse customer architectures.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on enabling customer integration of Tenstorrent silicon IP and supporting system bring-up and deployment.

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain software components for Tenstorrent hardware IP (firmware, drivers, tools, APIs).
  • Define and build reference software, SDKs, and toolchains to streamline customer integration.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware/software interaction issues during customer bring-up and deployment.
  • Create and maintain documentation, test suites, and integration guides for IP software deliverables.
  • Collaborate with hardware and architecture teams to ensure IP designs are optimized for software usability.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to external customers during integration and deployment phases.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and collaboration capabilities required for successful performance in this role.

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and system-level programming.
  • Experience with low-level software design, system-level debugging, and troubleshooting complex full-stack environments.
  • Background in firmware, device drivers, embedded systems, or hardware-software co-design.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external customers to resolve integration challenges.
  • Hands-on coding ability combined with architectural problem-solving skills.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with parallel processing, SIMD architectures (SSE, AVX, Arm Neon), or GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCL).
  • Employment contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology; may require U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or an export license.
