Role Summary
The Sr. Director, Supplier Quality Engineering leads Marvell's global supplier quality organization, owning end-to-end supplier quality for foundries, OSATs, optical module and board-level manufacturers. Reports to the SVP of Quality and serves as the executive quality interface to strategic suppliers and supply chain partners.
Responsible for strategy, governance, audits, continuous improvement, and building a high-performing global SQE team to deliver reliable product quality across advanced process nodes and packaging technologies.
Experience Level
Senior - requires extensive experience: 18+ years in semiconductor quality with at least 10 years in leadership roles.
Responsibilities
The role combines strategic leadership, supplier engagement, operational governance, and people management across global supplier ecosystems.
- Define and execute the global SQE strategy, roadmap, and operating model aligned to company product priorities.
- Serve as primary quality executive for strategic suppliers (foundries, OSATs, optical suppliers) and lead executive-level supplier business reviews.
- Lead foundry quality programs: advanced node qualification, process characterization, SPC, PCN risk assessment, and readiness audits.
- Oversee OSAT quality: supplier scorecards, audits (ISO 9001, VDA 6.3, IATF 16949), MRB governance, CAPA, and yield improvement initiatives.
- Manage optical module and contract manufacturer quality: supplier qualification, APQP/PFMEA/control plan implementation, and compliance activities.
- Drive continuous improvement using Six Sigma, DMAIC, Kaizen, and AI/ML-based analytics to reduce defects and improve yield and reliability.
- Lead and develop a globally distributed SQE team; implement organizational design, succession planning, and talent development.
- Represent Marvell in supplier governance bodies and customer audits; rapidly contain and resolve critical supplier quality incidents.
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills required to perform the role.
- Must-have: 18+ years of progressive semiconductor quality experience with at least 10 years in leadership positions.
- Must-have: Deep technical expertise in foundry quality for advanced CMOS nodes (including 7nm and below), yield management, process control, and wafer-level quality programs.
- Must-have: Significant hands-on experience managing OSAT supplier quality (assembly, test, bumping, substrate) and advanced packaging technologies (2.5D/3D, flip chip, WLP, heterogeneous integration).
- Must-have: Proven track record as an executive quality interface to major suppliers and experience leading supplier audits and formal issue resolution (8D, CAPA).
- Must-have: Mastery of quality engineering tools and methodologies (FMEA/PFMEA, SPC, DOE, MSA, Control Plans, 8D).
- Must-have: Familiarity with failure analysis techniques (CSAM, SEM/TEM, FIB) and reliability standards (JEDEC, AEC-Q100/Q101, IPC, MIL-STD).
- Must-have: Experience with PLM/QMS systems and quality data analytics; familiarity with AI/ML applications in quality is a plus.
- Leadership: Executive presence, strong cross-functional influence, and ability to lead large, distributed teams and manage multiple priorities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. Master's degree or PhD preferred.
