Job Title

Sr. Design Evaluation Engineer - Automotive Networking

Role Summary

Lead evaluation and validation of FPGA prototypes and automotive networking ASICs from platform bring-up through system-level verification, characterisation, and release readiness. Work within the Automotive Networking Evaluation team to define evaluation strategies, deliver reliable lab test solutions, and coordinate with design, verification, software, and product teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role requires four or more years of relevant experience in design evaluation, silicon validation, product engineering, or a comparable field.

Responsibilities

Deliver test strategies, automation, and lab validation to ensure product and system requirements are met:

  • Define and execute evaluation strategies, test plans, coverage goals, and release criteria for FPGA prototypes and ASICs.
  • Translate product and system requirements into measurable lab tests (functional, performance, interoperability, robustness, corner cases).
  • Develop modular test and automation software in C and Python for instrument control, data acquisition, regression execution, and reporting.
  • Execute and analyse complex silicon and FPGA test cases; debug failures across hardware, firmware, software, interfaces, and system boundaries.
  • Perform electrical and functional measurements using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, and similar equipment.
  • Lead root-cause investigations, document findings clearly, and drive cross-functional resolution.
  • Evaluate automotive Ethernet and related networking functionality: link behavior, data-path performance, timing, error handling, diagnostics, and interoperability.
  • Produce system-level hardware, embedded software, scripts, user guides, test procedures, and technical reports to enable internal and external evaluation.
  • Review results, identify coverage gaps and technical risks, and provide evidence-based recommendations to stakeholders.

Requirements

Essential skills and experience required for the role. Preferred items are listed after must-haves.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience in design evaluation, silicon validation, product or systems engineering.
  • Proven experience evaluating FPGA prototypes and performing bench validation or characterisation of ASICs.
  • Strong proficiency in C and Python for test, automation, or embedded software development.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, digital hardware, laboratory measurement techniques, and hardware/software integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex problems via structured debugging, root-cause analysis, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Experience capturing, processing, interpreting, and presenting technical data with emphasis on accuracy, repeatability, and traceability.
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet and networking concepts and experience with serial interfaces such as SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence across cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with automotive networking architectures, zonal systems, or software-defined vehicle concepts.
  • Experience with Ethernet protocol analysis, traffic generation, interoperability testing, performance measurement, or fault injection.
  • Experience developing embedded firmware for microcontrollers and integrating host-side software with evaluation hardware.
  • Experience with audio/video data paths (e.g., PDM, RGB) and with source control, CI, regression frameworks, and requirements traceability tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline - or equivalent relevant practical experience.
