Software Technical Program Manager
Efficient ComputerJob Title
Software Technical Program Manager
Role Summary
Lead and operate the quarterly software release program for the company's compiler, SDK, optimized libraries, and system software. Act as the operational center for release planning, critical-path tracking, quality gates, and cross-functional coordination across compiler, system software, embedded, product, architecture, and hardware teams.
This role focuses on release execution: scoping, scheduling, tradeoff decisions, risk mitigation, and executive reporting to ensure timely, high-quality releases for first-generation and ongoing silicon products.
Experience Level
Senior level. Posting requests 7+ years of experience in software engineering or program management, with prior hands-on engineering experience in compilers, systems software, or embedded software.
Responsibilities
Operate the full release lifecycle and coordinate cross-functional delivery.
- Own quarterly release execution: schedule, critical path, freeze dates, qualification, and ship.
- Build and defend release plans with product managers, team leads, and engineering managers.
- Drive weekly execution cadence: release reviews, bug triage, go/no-go decisions, and maintain single source of truth for status and dependencies.
- Coordinate dependencies across compiler, libraries, SDK, runtime, toolchains, board/silicon availability, and hardware/architecture teams.
- Establish and enforce release quality gates and run release checklists (tests, benchmarks, documentation, release notes).
- Track escaped defects and integrate lessons learned into processes.
- Surface risks early, quantify schedule impact, and present mitigation options.
- Facilitate scope, schedule, and quality tradeoffs and document decisions and owners.
- Prepare executive reporting on release status, risks, and decision points.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience relevant to delivering complex software releases for silicon and toolchain products.
- 7+ years in software engineering or program management with prior hands-on engineering experience in compilers, systems software, or embedded software.
- Proven ability to build and defend bottoms-up schedules with critical-path analysis and dependency mapping.
- Strong experience with software delivery flows: compiler toolchains, embedded SDKs, CI/CD, test coverage, performance benchmarking, and release engineering.
- Experience influencing without authority and driving commitments from senior engineers and technical leads.
- Strong written and verbal communication; able to run technical and executive reviews.
- Hands-on with program tooling such as GitHub, Linear, Jira, Notion, Confluence, and CI systems.
- Working fluency using AI tools to support program management tasks (reporting, issue tracking, dependency analysis).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience as a technical program manager on a first-generation silicon product where toolchain and hardware matured together.
- Familiarity with LLVM or MLIR, machine-learning compilers, language runtimes, or novel compute architectures (dataflow/spatial).
- Experience managing pre-silicon software enablement against emulation or FPGA prototyping programs.
Education Requirements
B.S. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience. M.S. or MBA is a plus. The posting explicitly allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of degrees.
