Role Summary
Lead a small software team (3β5 engineers) responsible for design, development, verification and deployment of embedded Linux and real-time software for satellite communication and signal-processing systems. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical delivery with people management and cross-discipline integration.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, hands-on development, integration, and verification of software for spaceflight systems.
- Recruit, manage and mentor a team of RT and Linux embedded software engineers; define workplans and ensure execution.
- Lead design, development, optimization, and integration of software for satellite communications and signal processing.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and hardware teams to integrate software with communication systems and hardware.
- Perform and oversee code reviews; provide technical guidance and mentoring.
- Plan and execute software testing, validation, and verification to meet high-reliability space requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex software issues in development and deployed systems; maintain documentation of designs and test results.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices for embedded and space-qualified software.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, team leadership experience, and development practices.
- Proven experience leading small teams of software developers for embedded systems, preferably for satellite communication or space applications.
- Strong software architecture and design skills; familiarity with design patterns and development methodologies.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Experience with embedded Linux user-space stacks and Yocto/Buildroot.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), software-defined radios (SDRs), and FPGA development.
- Experience with software verification and validation processes and agile development methodologies.
- Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with space industry standards and regulations.
Nice-to-have / advantages:
- Knowledge of digital communication principles, satellite communication protocols, and signal-processing algorithms.
- Experience with RF frontend development, 5G waveforms, DVB-S2X, CCSDS modems, DPDK, or VPP L2/L3 processing.
- Experience with ARM architectures, AMD/Xilinx toolchains, Linux kernel development, BSP/board bring-up.
- Scripting with Bash or Python and experience with Git.
- Experience executing European Space Agency (ESA) lead projects.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (as listed in the source).
