Software Simulation Intern

Role Summary

The Software Simulation Intern will join Intel's Software Simulation team in the Data Center Group to develop and maintain early platform system simulators used to validate firmware and software prior to silicon availability. The role contributes to simulator implementation, testing, and feature analysis within a collaborative, hybrid work model based in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Internship. Intended for students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities involve software development, testing, and collaboration with hardware and software engineers to deliver simulation features and platform capabilities.

  • Write, test, and debug simulator software and tooling.
  • Drive projects and feature implementations for platform simulators.
  • Analyze specifications for new IP and platform features; collaborate with architects and engineers to implement them in the simulator.
  • Own and be accountable for a defined section of the simulator product and its development timeline.
  • Communicate technical status and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with geographically distributed teams and interact with customers for technical discussions.

Requirements

Must-have skills and constraints to be considered for the role; preferred items are listed separately.

  • Programming experience with Python, C/C++ or other full programming languages (3+ months practical experience expected).
  • Advanced English communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong teamwork, problem-solving, organization, and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Willingness to learn, take ownership, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Unrestricted, permanent right to work in Mexico; this role is not eligible for visa or immigration sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of computer architecture concepts.
  • Familiarity with AI-based solutions or automation tools used to support engineering workflows.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic components datasheets and specifications.
  • Experience with the Simics simulator framework.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent technical field; at least one year remaining before graduation. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
