Optical Test Engineer

Role Summary

Validate and test pluggable coherent optical modules within the data center interconnect team. The role focuses on building optical testbeds, automating measurements, analyzing results, and working with hardware and firmware teams to ensure module performance.

Experience Level

Entry-level — 0–2 years of industry experience expected; advanced degree indicated.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing test setups, executing test plans, automating measurements, and reporting analysis to improve product performance.

  • Develop and execute optical test plans for coherent pluggable modules under various system conditions.
  • Design and build optical test beds and integrate laboratory equipment.
  • Automate testbeds and measurement workflows using software (preferably Python).
  • Debug and analyze test results; propose changes or improvements to cross-functional teams.
  • Write test reports and implement database or storage solutions for test results.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and hands-on experience.

  • Familiarity with optical fiber coherent communication systems.
  • Experience using optical lab equipment: optical spectrum analyzers, variable optical attenuators, EDFAs, and optical power meters; and performing measurements such as OSNR.
  • Knowledge of fiber impairments (CD, PMD, PDL, SPM, XPM) and their effects on system performance.
  • Experience setting up optical testbeds and automating measurements with software (preferably Python).
  • Ability to analyze measurement data and communicate findings to engineering teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience developing databases or tools for storing and querying test data.

Education Requirements

PhD or Master’s degree in optical communications or an optics-related field. The posting specifies 0–2 years of industry experience. No bachelor's-level or equivalent-experience language was provided.
