Software Engineering Manager
Role Summary
Lead the Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Link Layer software team in Espoo, owning technical execution, architecture health, and delivery for the Link Layer software that runs on Silicon Labs' wireless SoCs. Partner with architects, silicon, SDK, QA, validation, product management, and customer-facing teams to deliver high-quality, interoperable Bluetooth LE controller software.
This role combines people leadership with deep embedded software expertise to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and predictable delivery.
Experience Level
Senior — requires leadership experience. The role calls for 3+ years managing software engineering teams and several years of hands-on embedded C work in resource-constrained, real-time systems.
Responsibilities
Manage and enable a high-performing embedded software team while owning technical delivery and cross-functional execution.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop embedded software engineers; drive hiring and succession planning.
- Define and own technical direction for the Bluetooth LE Link Layer in partnership with the Link Layer Architect.
- Ensure technical health through architecture, design, and code reviews; drive modernization and debt reduction.
- Balance feature delivery, maintenance, interoperability, and software quality to meet roadmap goals.
- Coordinate priorities, technical dependencies, and realistic execution plans across globally distributed teams.
- Communicate status, risks, and delivery commitments to engineering leadership and stakeholders.
- Promote engineering excellence: CI/CD, automated testing, continuous delivery, and relevant engineering metrics.
- Champion responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve developer productivity and software quality.
- Continuously improve processes, tooling, and workflows to scale execution across teams.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and experience.
- 3+ years leading and managing software engineering teams delivering complex embedded software products.
- Several years of hands-on embedded software development using C in resource-constrained, real-time systems.
- Experience developing embedded communication protocol or wireless software, preferably Bluetooth LE or similar.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, SDLC, Agile methodologies, and modern engineering practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, and engineering automation.
- Experience with collaboration and project tools such as Jira, Confluence, Git, and CI/CD platforms.
- Proven ability to work effectively across globally distributed, cross-functional engineering organizations.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of AI-assisted software engineering and experience adopting AI tools responsibly.
Nice-to-have qualifications.
- Experience implementing Bluetooth LE Controller (Link Layer) software and familiarity with the Bluetooth Core Specification.
- Experience in semiconductor or wireless connectivity industries, radio firmware, PHY/MAC or timing-critical software.
- Experience with RTOS environments (Zephyr, FreeRTOS) and embedded debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers).
- Familiarity with other IoT protocols (Matter, Thread, Zigbee, Wi‑Fi, Wi‑SUN, Z‑Wave) and working with silicon design or hardware verification teams.
