Software Engineer (Semiconductor Digital Twin)
SiemensJob Title
Software Engineer (Semiconductor Digital Twin)
Role Summary
Develop and research high-fidelity semiconductor process and device simulation software within the Calibre™ R&D team. Work on numerical algorithms, high-performance implementations, and tooling that support semiconductor manufacturing and device analysis at advanced nodes.
The role is team-based and hybrid, collaborating with product engineers and domain experts to deliver scalable simulation solutions for customers across advanced logic, memory, and packaging technologies.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Engineer). No explicit years-of-experience requirement stated beyond technical seniority expectations in the description.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include designing, implementing, and optimizing simulation software and numerical methods. Typical activities:
- Design and implement numerical algorithms and solvers for PDEs, linear algebra, eigenproblems, and related methods.
- Develop high-performance code for distributed and accelerated platforms (MPI, multi-threading, GPU/CUDA).
- Integrate computational geometry and simulation components into production-grade EDA tools.
- Profile, optimize, and scale software to meet high-throughput manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, estimate tasks, and deliver software on schedule.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes; semiconductor domain experience is optional but beneficial.
- Strong background in scientific computing: numerical methods (FEM/FD/FVM/BEM), solvers, optimization, or computational geometry.
- Experience with high-performance computing: distributed processing, MPI, multi-threading, and GPU acceleration (CUDA).
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience with CUDA toolchains.
- Practical experience applying AI/ML techniques to accelerate computational problems is valued.
- Strong problem-solving, software estimation, and collaborative teamwork skills.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with semiconductor processes (photolithography, etch, deposition, CMP) and device physics.
Education Requirements
PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering is preferred; alternatively an MS plus 5+ years of research/industry experience. Fields mentioned: Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering. Equivalent practical experience is implied by the MS+experience option.
