Software Engineer – RTOS/MCAL SDK
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
Software Engineer – RTOS/MCAL SDK
Role Summary
Develop RTOS-based SDK components and support post-silicon validation and bring-up for embedded MCUs. The role sits on the CPU / Platform Software and Post-Silicon Validation teams focused on enabling customers with low-level drivers, BSPs and validation test suites.
Work includes driver and BSP development, example/demo applications, silicon bring-up, peripheral validation, and cross-team collaboration with architecture, hardware, safety, and tools groups.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
- Design and implement embedded software for RTOS-based SDKs: low-level drivers (LLDs), HALs, RTOS abstraction layers, and board support packages (BSPs).
- Develop example and demo applications to demonstrate peripheral functionality and performance.
- Create validation test applications that reuse RTOS SDK components for post-silicon validation.
- Bring up first silicon and validate critical peripherals such as ADC, PWM, CAN, LIN, watchdogs, and related interfaces.
- Support automation of lab and CI-based test execution for validation workflows.
- Analyze and debug complex issues using emulators, silicon, and debug tools (e.g., OpenOCD, J-Link, Lauterbach).
- Collaborate with architecture, hardware, safety, and tools teams to align software with silicon capabilities and roadmap.
- Contribute reference software and tooling to help customers bootstrap designs.
- Provide feedback for next-generation MCU architecture and contribute to the RISC-V software ecosystem and relevant open-source projects.
Requirements
Core technical expectations and desirable skills.
- Must-have: Embedded C/C++ development experience; experience with RTOS concepts and BSP/driver development; hands-on silicon bring-up or post-silicon validation; experience debugging with emulators and hardware debug tools; familiarity with common MCU peripherals (ADC, PWM, CAN, LIN, watchdogs); ability to develop test applications and support CI/lab automation.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with RISC-V toolchains and ecosystem; prior work on automotive or safety-critical MCUs; experience with Lauterbach or advanced trace/probe tooling; experience contributing to open-source projects.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
