ASIC Physical Design Engineer
NVIDIAJob Title
ASIC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Perform physical design tasks from RTL to GDSII, including synthesis, timing analysis and signoff, partitioning, constraints, floorplanning and related flow development. Work on advanced process nodes and very large chips in collaboration with ASIC, P&R, DFT, SI and architecture teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The team hires engineers across junior to senior levels; specific years of experience are not mandated in the posting.
Responsibilities
Primary technical responsibilities for the role.
- Perform STA for hierarchical designs and validate constraints and timing budgets.
- Achieve timing closure at partition and full‑chip levels, including special cases (I/O, test, clocks).
- Run synthesis, netlist quality checks and formal verification tasks.
- Define and implement chip partitioning and floorplanning; produce functional ECOs.
- Develop and enhance timing closure flows from frontend (pre‑layout) to backend (post‑layout).
- Develop flow automation and methodology in the above areas.
Requirements
Core skills and tools required or strongly preferred.
Must-have:
- Project experience in IC design implementation and physical design activities.
- Hands-on experience with EDA tools (examples: Synopsys FC/DC/PT/Formality; Cadence RC Compiler/Genus/LEC).
- Proficiency in scripting for flow automation (Python, Perl, or TCL).
- Ability to read and write technical English.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing methodology or automation across timing closure flows.
- Strong English communication and collaborative skills.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Microelectronics is preferred; the posting also notes a preference for candidates with 1+ year of related experience. Coursework in circuit design and digital design is recommended.
