Software Engineer - Intern
Role Summary
Internship position within Altera Toronto R&D supporting development of IP and software used by product teams. Work includes implementing and validating engineering solutions across software, firmware, and digital logic domains while collaborating with cross-functional and multi-site teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Candidates are typically current undergraduate students; the role expects at least 3 months of relevant coursework or practical experience in the listed technologies.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to ongoing R&D projects and support engineering deliverables, including:
- Implement and test software or firmware components using C/C++ and/or Python.
- Develop, simulate, and verify digital logic and FPGA designs (e.g. Verilog).
- Debug and diagnose system- and IP-level issues and deliver documented results.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and multi-site engineering teams to integrate IP solutions.
- Prioritize assigned tasks and meet project timelines with attention to quality.
- Communicate technical progress and findings to team members and supervisors.
Requirements
Key technical skills and professional attributes required:
- 3+ months of experience or coursework in one or more of: C/C++, Python, digital logic, FPGAs, Verilog.
- Strong problem-solving ability and tolerance for ambiguity.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and deliver disciplined, high-quality engineering results.
- Experience contributing in a multi-site or cross-functional team environment.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar technical field.
