Software Engineer Intern
Role Summary
Work on firmware and tools for Ambarella imaging SoCs, implementing and testing advanced imaging and video algorithms. You'll collaborate with system architects and algorithm engineers to optimize code for DSP/SoC hardware used in automotive, security, and other camera markets.
Experience Level
Internship β suitable for current Bachelor's or Master's students or recent graduates. This is an early-career role focused on hands-on development and learning.
Responsibilities
Primary duties for the microcode summer intern:
- Learn Ambarella's DSP architecture and optimize code to use CPU and memory efficiently.
- Design, implement, and test microcode within algorithm and hardware constraints.
- Research relevant papers and prototype DSP algorithm ideas.
- Develop test code and validation suites for hardware blocks.
- Participate in code reviews and follow standard software development practices.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical skills and behaviors.
- Must-have: Solid experience programming in C or C++.
- Must-have: Some experience with assembly code development and debugging.
- Must-have: Familiarity with scripting (Perl, Python) for tooling and test automation.
- Must-have: Understanding of modern computer architecture: registers, interrupts, threads, on-chip memory, DRAM, and data synchronization issues.
- Must-have: Comfortable with software development practices such as unit testing and code review.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with image processing and video compression standards (MPEG, H.264/265) and basic video representation concepts.
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to neural network frameworks (TensorFlow, Caffe, PyTorch).
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical problem solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent; current Master's students in these disciplines are preferred. The posting allows equivalent practical experience.
