Software Engineer - Intern
Role Summary
Internship on Altera's Toronto R&D team contributing to software and IP used in product development. The role focuses on implementing, testing, and debugging software that interfaces with hardware and FPGA designs and working with cross-functional, multi-site teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship (student / fixed-term). Intended for candidates currently enrolled in a degree program.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities for this internship include:
- Write and maintain C++ and Python code for tools, tests, or firmware.
- Develop and run tests, debug issues, and validate designs against requirements.
- Analyze hardware/software interactions and support FPGA-related development and verification.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and multi-site teams to deliver features and fixes.
- Document work, report progress, and present results to engineering stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical and professional qualifications:
- Experience programming in C++ and Python.
- Knowledge or understanding of computer hardware and/or FPGAs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and tolerance for ambiguity.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; able to work in a team and independently prioritize tasks.
- Focus on quality, discipline, and producing accurate engineering results.
Nice-to-have:
- Prior project or internship experience with hardware/software co-design or FPGA tool flows.
Education Requirements
Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (student status) in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Computer Science, or a related technical field. Candidates must be eligible for any required Canadian export authorizations.
Estimated salary range: 95,000β100,000 CAD per year.
