Job Title

Software Engineer II - Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Role Summary

Join the Solver team to develop high-performance, physics-based simulation software used for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Work on meshing, solvers, and flow-network components across CPU and GPU platforms.

The role involves collaborating with software engineers, computational scientists, and product teams to deliver reliable, well-tested features for engineering customers.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Software Engineer II). Cadence describes this role as early-career; no explicit years-of-experience requirement is stated.

Responsibilities

Primary engineering duties and team activities:

  • Develop and maintain solver and pre/post-processing features for CPU and GPU targets.
  • Implement functionality with attention to correctness, performance, and maintainability.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve defects while preserving application performance and code quality.
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies: sprint planning, reviews, and feature design meetings.
  • Engage in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.
  • Collaborate with product managers and technical stakeholders to deliver specified requirements.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and preferred skills.

Must-have:

  • Proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20).
  • Strong mathematical foundations relevant to physical simulation (linear algebra, differential equations, numerical methods).
  • Familiarity with software development fundamentals: version control (Git), testing practices, and structured problem-solving.

Nice-to-have:

  • Exposure to CFD principles or numerical methods from study or projects.
  • Familiarity with parallel computing (OpenMP, MPI) and GPU APIs such as CUDA.
  • Experience in agile development, scientific or engineering software, scientific visualization, or CAD tools.
  • Clear communication skills and a methodical, process-oriented approach to development.

Education Requirements

Degree or equivalent experience in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related technical discipline (the posting explicitly allows "or equivalent experience").
