Job Title

Software Engineer - DFT CAD Tools (RDSS Intern)

Role Summary

The intern will develop and maintain in-house CAD software and automated design flows for Design-for-Test (DFT) used across NVIDIA semiconductor products. Work involves collaborating with DFT methodology, implementation, and design teams to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable tools.

Work is on the CAD team responsible for toolchains supporting large ASIC designs; projects use C++, scripting languages, and testing/verification infrastructure.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (RDSS intern). Suitable for graduate students or early-career engineers; specific years of experience not specified.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include design, implementation, and validation of CAD/DFT tools and related infrastructure.

  • Design and implement in-house CAD software for DFT with modular, object-oriented architecture.
  • Build highly automated and customizable design flows for production ASIC designs.
  • Gather and define software requirements by working with DFT methodology and design teams.
  • Collaborate on algorithms, program architecture, and detailed implementations.
  • Improve testing and verification infrastructure to ensure correctness and reliability.
  • Support DFT and power methodologies used in industry-leading chip designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes.

  • Strong C++ programming skills with knowledge of modern C++ standards (C++11/14/17/20/23).
  • Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language such as Python or Tcl.
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills.
  • Curiosity and a desire to innovate and improve software quality.

Nice-to-have.

  • Experience developing CAD/EDA software or a strong passion for coding.
  • Familiarity with Design-for-Test concepts (Scan, ATPG, BIST, JTAG).
  • Understanding of Verilog and ASIC design principles or IC design flows.
  • Experience with modern software testing frameworks and practices (e.g., gtest, TDD/BDD).
  • Experience with Perl, web services development, or AI-related technologies.

Education Requirements

MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; or equivalent practical experience.
