Job Title

Software Engineer – CI/CD, Release & Automation

Role Summary

Join Arm's CE-SW software group to design, implement and operate CI/CD, release and automation solutions for Client/Server/IoT software targeting next-generation Arm platforms. The role focuses on improving release quality and developer productivity by automating build, test, validation and release workflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level — 3–6 years of relevant experience in software development, validation, test automation, CI/CD or release engineering.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include release engineering, CI/CD pipeline ownership, automation development and cross-team validation support.

  • Prepare and validate software releases: release preparation, branching/tagging, artifact generation and release documentation.
  • Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines, including jobs, runners, schedules, artifacts and reporting workflows.
  • Develop automation for build, test, validation and release processes to reduce manual effort and increase repeatability.
  • Write and maintain Python-based automation scripts, test cases and reusable components within the team's framework.
  • Integrate automated tests with CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing across development and release branches.
  • Support automated validation on FVP, emulation, FPGA and SoC platforms (provisioning, flashing, boot validation, log collection).
  • Monitor pipeline and test failures, perform initial triage and collaborate with software, firmware, validation and infrastructure teams to resolve issues.
  • Document and continuously improve release, CI/CD and automation processes to boost reliability and developer productivity.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for day-one contribution; nice-to-have items follow.

  • Must-have: 3–6 years of relevant experience in software development, validation, test automation, CI/CD or release engineering.
  • Must-have: Strong programming skills in Python; working knowledge of C/C++ and shell scripting for automation and tooling.
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI, Jenkins or GitHub Actions (pipelines, jobs, runners, artifacts, schedules).
  • Must-have: Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts, test suites and reusable automation utilities.
  • Must-have: Understanding of software release processes: branching, tagging, merge requests, release artifacts, versioning and validation.
  • Must-have: Good knowledge of Linux, system software fundamentals, boot flow, firmware and drivers, and basic debugging using logs and test results.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with software testing methodologies, failure triage, test reporting and cross-functional collaboration; effective written and verbal communication.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Python test frameworks (PyTest) and building/maintaining test automation frameworks.
  • Nice-to-have: Exposure to FVP, emulation, FPGA or SoC platforms and firmware validation workflows.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of ARM system architecture, Linux kernel, bootloaders, device drivers and embedded software environments.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Git-based workflows, open-source contribution models, code reviews and repository management.
  • Nice-to-have: Awareness of profiling, instrumentation, performance optimization, security practices and Agile methods.
