Software Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and maintain High-Level Synthesis (HLS) compiler components and related EDA tools for Microchip's FPGA product line. Work on LLVM/MLIR-based compiler passes, hardware optimization, and system-level integration within a cross-functional engineering team based in Toronto.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 7+ years of software engineering experience, with prior compiler development experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop, verify, and maintain analysis and transformation passes for the HLS compiler (LLVM/MLIR).
  • Optimize generated hardware architectures for power, performance, and area.
  • Analyze real-world customer applications to identify and implement performance and area improvements.
  • Implement new HLS features and support system-level flows, SoC integration, and verification as required.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile environment to solve complex technical challenges.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in C/C++.
  • Strong knowledge of compilers and solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • At least 2 years hands-on experience working with LLVM/MLIR.
  • Strong background in digital design principles.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on FPGA experience and familiarity with HLS tools.
  • Experience with full SoC design flows, IP integration, and hardware/software co-design.
  • Familiarity integrating RISC-V subsystems and FPGA-based accelerators.
  • Proficiency with Git and scripting languages (Python, Bash, TCL).
  • Experience developing on Linux and Windows.

Education Requirements

BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
