Job Title

SoC Systems Performance Engineer, Senior

Role Summary

Perform system-level performance analysis and lead studies to define SoC architecture and tuning across CPU, GPU, DSP, memory, and interconnect subsystems. Work on a cross-functional team of systems engineers, hardware and software architects to drive architecture decisions for mobile, automotive, and compute SoC products.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting indicates a minimum of 2+ years of systems engineering or related work experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include hands-on performance analysis, architecture-driven studies, and cross-team collaboration.

  • Lead and conduct performance and systems studies to inform SoC architecture.
  • Analyze tradeoffs among performance, power, and thermal constraints to define architecture plans.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, marketing, and product teams on multimedia, modem, compute, and memory technologies.
  • Define complex use cases and new workloads (e.g., gaming, AI) to derive system requirements.
  • Deploy and use simulators, profilers, and hardware to identify performance bottlenecks and justify architectural changes.
  • Apply computer architecture expertise (CPUs, GPUs, DSPs, cache coherency, virtual memory) to system-level problems.
  • Communicate experimental results and recommendations to technical leads and peers.
  • Invent technical solutions and contribute to patentable work.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • 2+ years systems engineering or related engineering experience (experience requirement retained here).
  • Practical knowledge of computer architecture concepts: CPU, GPU, DSP, interconnects, shared memory.
  • Experience with system or chipset development for SoC products and HW/SW interaction; OS principles.
  • Hands-on experience using and modifying simulators and performance/power models (especially full-system models) and profiling tools.
  • Proficient in C/C++ and scripting for automation and performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with memory technologies, memory controllers, scheduling, MMUs, and SoC interconnects.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to convey technical results.
  • Nice-to-have: SystemC and event-driven simulators, VLSI design and verification experience, familiarity with ARM, Linux, multimedia or communication technologies (audio/video codecs, camera, WLAN, LTE, 5G).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field is listed. The posting also references MS or PhD degrees. (The original text did not state an "or equivalent experience" clause for degrees.)
