Job Title

SoC Simulation Engineer / Software Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and maintain functional simulation models and virtual platforms for System-on-Chip (SoC) designs to enable early software and firmware development and accelerate time-to-market.

Work within the Virtual Platforms team in the MBE software/firmware organization, collaborating with software and firmware teams to reproduce, analyze, and resolve issues observed in simulation and to promote adoption of virtual platforms across product teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical guidance: approximately 3–5 years of relevant professional experience (varies with advanced degrees and prior experience in simulation or firmware).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include building and supporting functional SoC simulation models and platforms and working with software/firmware teams to enable early development.

  • Design, implement, and validate accurate and efficient functional models for SoC simulation.
  • Integrate models into virtual platforms and maintain simulation environments and toolchains.
  • Collaborate with software and firmware teams to gather requirements, provide early software enablement, and reproduce issues.
  • Analyze simulation results to diagnose and resolve firmware and system-level issues.
  • Advocate for and support adoption of virtual platforms and best practices across engineering teams.
  • Continuously learn and adapt to new tools, architectures, and SoC designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and eligibility requirements. Degree specifics are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Proficient in Python and C++ for simulation and tooling development.
  • Fundamental understanding of firmware and software architecture and development workflows.
  • Experience developing, validating, or using simulation models or virtual platforms for system-level verification or software enablement.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills to analyze simulation outputs and reproduce firmware issues.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional work with software and firmware teams.
  • Must be eligible to access export-controlled information as required by U.S. export control regulations (export license review may apply).
  • Nice-to-have: experience with Virtualizer, Simics, QEMU, gem5 or similar simulator technologies; experience with ARM and/or RISC-V computer architectures.

Education Requirements

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (typical experience 3–5 years). Advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD in CS, EE, or related) considered with reduced experience expectations (about 2–3 years). Other majors may be considered with sufficient relevant knowledge or equivalent practical experience.
