Senior / Staff Firmware Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and execute black-box functional tests and test methodologies for NVMe SSDs, debug and triage failures, and collaborate with firmware, automation, and customer/OEM teams to reproduce problems and improve test coverage.
Position is on a firmware validation/testing team focused on enterprise storage device validation and integration into automated test frameworks.
Experience Level
Mid-level (4–15 years relevant experience). The role expects experienced firmware validation engineers, with senior/staff responsibilities for test strategy and customer interaction.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include designing and running functional tests, debugging issues, and integrating coverage into automation frameworks.
- Develop black-box functional test coverage and test methodologies for NVMe SSDs.
- Debug and triage failures; reproduce issues and design experiments with firmware teams.
- Analyze customer field issues and close gaps in functional test coverage.
- Provide guidance to the automation team and assist with integration of tests into existing frameworks.
- Work directly with local US and international customers and OEMs to validate devices and resolve issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, plus a few preferred items.

Must-have: Experience with NVMe and PCIe or related storage technologies (NVM Express, PCI Express, NAND Flash/FTL).

Must-have: Proficiency in Linux and familiarity with enterprise storage/server systems.

Must-have: Hands-on experience in embedded software or firmware development and testing for storage devices or embedded platforms.

Must-have: Experience with storage test tools: performance benchmarks, IO stress tools, protocol certification tools, test execution and bug management tools.

Must-have: Hands-on experience with PCI protocol analyzers.

Must-have: Experience with Python for test automation or validation scripting.

Must-have: Demonstrated ability to work as a team player in local and globally distributed teams and to interact with customers/OEMs.

Nice-to-have: Familiarity with agile development practices and prior exposure to AI/ML-focused environments.
