SOC RTL Design - Senior Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver RTL/IP blocks for SoC-level ASICs, focusing on high-performance, low-power implementations. Work with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, verification) to define architectures, create specifications, and drive designs through synthesis, place-and-route, and verification.
Experience Level
Senior. Qualcomm prefers candidates with substantial ASIC/RTL design experience (typically 5+ years preferred); this role works independently and provides technical guidance to others.
Responsibilities
Main duties include:
- Define architectures, circuit specifications, logic designs, and system simulations from system-level requirements.
- Implement RTL (digital and/or analog) and optimize for performance, power, and area.
- Drive design through the full flow (RTL to GDS) and collaborate with synthesis, place-and-route, timing and power teams.
- Develop and execute verification and validation strategies; work with verification teams to close issues.
- Collaborate with software and hardware architects to align implementation with system requirements.
- Prepare and review technical documentation for EDA/IP/ASIC projects.
Requirements
Required core skills and experience; separate items list preferred additions.
- Must-have: Practical ASIC/SoC RTL design and implementation experience (design, verification, validation, or integration).
- Experience with RTL-to-GDS flow and common EDA tools and methodologies.
- Ability to create architecture-level and block-level specifications, and to perform system-level tradeoffs (timing, power, area).
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document designs and influence technical decisions.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with architecture/design tools, scripting and programming languages, design verification methods, and prior interaction with senior leadership.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications allow multiple paths: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years applicable ASIC experience; OR a Master’s degree in Science/Engineering or related field with 2+ years; OR a PhD in Science/Engineering or related field with 1+ year. Preferred fields include Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable as indicated in the minimum qualifications.
