Job Title

SoC Functional Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Work on functional validation of integrated SoCs in the Data Center Group, focusing on IP integration, inter‑IP interactions, and system‑level features. The role develops and executes validation plans, debugs postsilicon issues, and collaborates with architecture, design, verification, board, platform, and manufacturing teams.

Requires regular onsite presence; eligible for a hybrid work model.

Experience Level

Senior-level — minimum ~5 years of relevant experience; preferred candidates often have 8+ years.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include validation planning, execution, infrastructure development, and cross-team coordination.

  • Define, develop, and execute SoC functional validation and test plans covering IP integration and system features.
  • Develop validation methodologies and postsilicon validation infrastructure (performance monitors, behavioral checkers, coverage tools).
  • Apply hardware and software tools across simulation, emulation, FPGA, and silicon environments to ensure coverage and meet performance/power/area goals.
  • Perform silicon debug, root-cause analysis, triage failures, and drive fixes with design and firmware teams.
  • Test interactions between SoC features and develop content to stimulate specific IP interactions using microcode, firmware, or custom OS builds.
  • Publish validation reports, review results, and advise teams on design changes and their impact on validation plans and timelines.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills; formal degree requirements are summarized under Education Requirements.

  • Must-have: ~5+ years relevant experience; developing test plans; Linux/UNIX development; object-oriented programming in languages such as C, C++, C#, Perl, or Python; hardware/system bring-up and silicon power-on experience.
  • Preferred: ~8+ years with RTL/hardware debug (including Verilog review and waveform correlation), developing test automation frameworks, FPGA/emulation model development, firmware/software debug of large C/C++ applications, PCIe protocol/interface testing, lab equipment usage (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers), and design/testing for system clock/reset flows.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, effective collaboration and communication, adaptability in ambiguous environments, and attention to detail.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered; preferred candidates may hold a Master’s degree. Requirements may be satisfied through a combination of industry experience, internships, or relevant coursework.
