SOC Engineer, Physical Design
Role Summary
Engineer responsible for SoC physical-design work using Synopsys EDA tools, delivering solutions from specification through post-silicon bring-up. The role interfaces with customer design and CAD teams and with internal Business Units and Sales to deploy tools and IP.
Experience Level
Mid-level — 1 to 4+ years of relevant Place & Route and physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical delivery, customer engagement, and mentoring.
- Develop and implement SoC physical-design flows using Synopsys EDA tools and IP across all stages, including post-silicon bring-up.
- Support turnkey projects and act as a trusted advisor to customer design and CAD teams.
- Diagnose and resolve P&R, timing, extraction, IREM, and physical verification issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional Synopsys teams (BU AE, Sales) to deploy tool and IP solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members; set and meet task-level goals and schedules.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 1–4+ years hands-on Place & Route experience using Fusion Compiler / ICC2.
- Strong debugging skills and practical understanding of P&R, extraction, timing, IREM, and physical verification fundamentals.
- Proficiency in scripting (TCL, PERL, Python).
- Effective English communication and ability to work with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, and mentor junior engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with signoff tools such as PrimeTime, RedHawk, StarRC, ICV.
Education Requirements
BS, MS, or PhD in Electronics Engineering, Electromechanics, or Telecommunications.
