SMTS Quantum Integration Engineer
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
SMTS Quantum Integration Engineer
Role Summary
The Quantum Integration Engineer (SMTS) is a senior technical contributor in Quantum Product Development responsible for developing and integrating semiconductor technologies that enable scalable quantum computing systems. The role leads integration architecture, experimental roadmaps, and execution of development programs across device integration, BEOL interconnects, photonics, packaging, and cryogenic interfaces.
Acts as a technical interface across device engineering, process development, manufacturing, modeling, design enablement, packaging, reliability, and external partners to transition emerging quantum concepts into manufacturable technologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level - requires 15+ years of semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, integration development, cross-functional execution, data analysis, and mentoring.
- Lead development of semiconductor integration architectures for quantum platforms.
- Define integration strategies across front-end devices, BEOL routing, photonic interfaces, advanced packaging, interconnects, and quantum-specific process modules.
- Develop and maintain technology roadmaps; identify critical technology gaps and drive closure plans.
- Define and execute integrated process flows, module interactions, process windows, and technology learning cycles.
- Optimize integration using DOE methodologies, statistical analysis, and yield learning techniques.
- Establish integration checkpoints, performance metrics, and technical success criteria; evaluate tradeoffs for performance, manufacturability, reliability, yield, cost, and scalability.
- Collaborate with device engineering, process teams, manufacturing, reliability, modeling, design enablement, and packaging organizations.
- Analyze electrical, physical, reliability, and metrology data; lead root-cause investigations and corrective action planning.
- Mentor junior engineers and MTS-level contributors; contribute to invention disclosures, publications, and patents.
- Perform work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have experience and skills:
- 15+ years of semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in semiconductor integration, process development, or technology commercialization.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical programs or major development initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills, experimental design experience, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to engineering and leadership audiences.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with BEOL technologies, photonics integration, advanced packaging, or heterogeneous integration.
- Knowledge of quantum hardware architectures, ion trapping technologies, photonic systems, or cryogenic electronics.
- Experience supporting advanced R&D programs funded through government, commercial, or academic partnerships.
- Familiarity with MES systems and foundry processing; experience transitioning emerging technologies from research into development or manufacturing.
Education Requirements
Associates degree, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
