SMTS - Field Application Engineering
Role Summary
Customer-facing Field Application Engineer responsible for driving design wins and supporting customers through NPI and tapeout using GlobalFoundries technology. Acts as the single technical interface for APAC (Taiwan) customers and coordinates cross-functional teams to ensure successful first-time-right silicon delivery.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 10 years of relevant semiconductor experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on customer engagement, design-win acquisition, tapeout readiness, and cross-team coordination.
- Drive technology demonstrations and execute strategies to secure design wins.
- Serve as the single technical contact for customers; coordinate technical sales interactions.
- Partner with Customer Application Engineering (CAE), account managers, and product teams to solve customer issues and enable design-in.
- Lead customer design reviews, mock tapeouts, and align on MPW/test-chip requirements.
- Manage tapeout logistics and execution, including readiness tasks and documentation.
- Coordinate silicon functionality verification, performance validation, and post-tapeout activities with Customer Engineering.
- Prepare technical proposals and presentations to support customer evaluations.
- Collect and communicate customer feedback to product, marketing, and technology teams to close gaps that affect design wins.
- Track competitive and market trends to inform customer engagements and product positioning.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and professional competencies.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant semiconductor experience, including technology or design roles.
- End-to-end experience from concept to silicon validation (concept → tapeout → silicon validation).
- Exposure to IC product design and IP integration.
- Familiarity with design enablement flows and related tools.
- Solid understanding of silicon processing and device physics.
- Strong communication, presentation, sales aptitude, analytical, and project-management skills.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and resolve technical obstacles to meet schedule and quality goals.
- Nice-to-have: prior experience working within or with a semiconductor foundry.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
