SMTS - Field Application Engineer
Role Summary
Serve as the primary technical interface to APAC (Taiwan) customers to drive design wins and support successful tape-outs and NPI using GlobalFoundries technology. Coordinate evaluations, design-in support, and post-tapeout validation with sales, CAE, and engineering teams.
Focus on design-win acquisition, tapeout readiness, technical problem solving, and cross-functional coordination to ensure first-time-right silicon for customers.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 10 years of relevant semiconductor experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include customer engagement, technical strategy for design wins, and tapeout execution:
- Act as single technical interface for customers and coordinate technical sales and support activities.
- Drive technology demonstrations, evaluations, and design-win acquisition.
- Support design-in phase to achieve first-time-right NPI and meet DWIN/MPW/tapeout goals.
- Plan and execute tapeout logistics: IP declarations, export controls, frame tables, mock TOs, and MPW/test chip requirements.
- Lead customer design reviews, align on testchip requirements, and support silicon functionality verification.
- Partner with CAE, customer engineering, product marketing, and process teams to resolve technical issues.
- Gather customer requirements and feedback; identify gaps in product/service offerings and recommend improvements.
- Prepare technical presentations, proposals, and solutions tailored to customer evaluations.
- Monitor competitive landscape and emerging technology trends to inform customer engagements.
- Support post-tapeout activities and coordinate with customer on product performance and design margins.
Requirements

Must: Minimum 10 years' experience in semiconductors with end-to-end experience from concept to silicon validation.

Must: Experience with IC product design, IP, and design enablement flows/tools.

Must: Solid understanding of silicon processing and device physics.

Nice-to-have: Prior experience in a foundry environment or exposure to foundry processes.

Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
