SM Fab Advanced Process Controls (APC) Engineer
Texas InstrumentsJob Title
SM Fab Advanced Process Controls (APC) Engineer
Role Summary
Implement and support Advanced Process Control (APC) methods to reduce run-to-run process variation and improve yield, reliability, and equipment availability in a new 300mm fabrication facility. Collaborate with process engineering, equipment automation, data engineering, and data science teams to deploy APC solutions, predictive methods, and software tools.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career - requires a minimum of about 2 years relevant experience (see Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Support manufacturing ramp by executing APC run-to-run (R2R) processes and process experiments to accelerate equipment/process startup and release.
- Support equipment installation, process startup, and process release activities for a new factory.
- Develop and enhance the R2R control system: add control features, create APC software tools, optimize algorithms, and integrate machine learning with traditional control.
- Work with MES platforms and learn to execute in multiple manufacturing execution systems quickly and proficiently.
- Support high-volume 300mm fab operations for Analog or Embedded Processing technologies.
- Develop improved manufacturing methods, procedures, and processes to increase efficiency, yields, and quality.
- Plan and execute improvement projects (efficiency, cost reduction, quality, new product support).
- Identify systematic process or equipment issues and communicate findings to engineering teams; participate in data analysis and problem resolution.
- Apply statistical methods (SPC, DOE, modeling) and other advanced data analysis techniques to control and improve processes.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Minimum: ~2 years relevant experience in at least two of the following areas: Industrial Automation; Semiconductor Process Engineering; Data Analytics/System Integration.
- Proficiency in programming (Python and/or SQL).
- Experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES) or demonstrated ability to learn MES quickly.
- Experience or familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing and high-volume 300mm fab operations.
Nice-to-have:
- Strong foundation in statistical process control (SPC), control theory/tools (e.g., PID tuning, state estimation), and linear algebra.
- Experience with Semiconductor APC systems (preferably AMAT E3 or ProcessWORKS).
- Experience with engineering change control and process release strategies.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: advanced technical degree related to controls, systems, or software development.
