Silicon Validation Engineer
Lattice SemiconductorJob Title
Silicon Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Validate and characterize FPGA silicon building blocks at the board level to ensure functionality and performance from silicon arrival through production release. Work with cross-functional teams (design, verification, manufacturing, test, quality, and applications) to plan, execute, and document validation and characterization activities.
This role provides hands-on exposure to FPGA IPs (SERDES, DDR, DPHY, PLL, DSP, Fabric, I/O), lab equipment, test automation and test logic development.
Experience Level
Entry-level (2+ years of relevant experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing silicon validation and characterization tasks, developing test logic and automation, and supporting product release and customer issues.
- Validate and characterize FPGA IPs and board-level designs (SERDES/PMA/PCS, DDR4/LPDDR4/DDR5, DPHY, PLL, DSP, MIPI, Fabric, I/O).
- Plan and execute validation and characterization test plans from silicon arrival to production release.
- Develop test logic RTL and bench hardware/software to implement validation tests.
- Bring up new silicon, perform debug, analyze measured data, and derive datasheet parameters.
- Develop test automation and scripts for validation using Python, Perl, or similar languages.
- Perform board-level signal integrity evaluation and debugging.
- Use lab equipment such as BERT, VNA, oscilloscopes, protocol exercisers/analyzers for device characterization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support customer issue resolution after product release.
Requirements
Must-have skills, tools, and attributes for the role.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in silicon/board validation or related engineering roles.
- Experience with high-speed SerDes interface characterization and protocol compliance testing (examples: PCIe, Ethernet, SDI, CoaXpress, JESD204, MIPI D-PHY, MIPI CSI/DSI, USB, DisplayPort/HDMI).
- Experience in high-speed board design and signal integrity evaluation/debug.
- Knowledge of Verilog/VHDL and FPGA development tools for test logic implementation.
- Experience developing test automation using Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and concepts (examples: JMP, R) for data analysis.
- Exposure to FPGA emulation/prototyping and common lab equipment for characterization.
- Strong written and verbal communication, proactive mindset, and solid problem-solving skills.
- Ability to undergo background and reference checks and provide proof of right to work in India.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
