Silicon Validation Engineer 3
Lattice SemiconductorJob Title
Silicon Validation Engineer 3
Role Summary
Validate and characterize FPGA silicon building blocks at the board level to ensure functionality and performance from silicon arrival through product release. Work on test-plan development, RTL test logic, bench hardware/software, and data analysis.
Collaborate with design, verification, manufacturing, test, quality, and applications teams; support product bring-up, debug, and customer issue resolution.
Experience Level
Entry-level - 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on silicon bring-up, validation, characterization, and cross-functional support.
- Validate and characterize FPGA IPs and subsystems (from silicon arrival to production release).
- Develop detailed validation and characterization plans and bench hardware/software setups.
- Implement RTL test logic to execute validation and characterization tests.
- Drive new-silicon bring-up, debug issues, and verify IP functionality and performance.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret measurement data with statistical methods to support datasheet parameters.
- Coordinate with design, verification, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing/apps teams during product release.
- Support customer-reported issues after product release as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 2+ years of relevant silicon or hardware validation experience.
- Expertise in high-speed SerDes characterization and protocol compliance testing (examples: PCIe, Ethernet, SDI, CoaXpress, JESD204, MIPI D-PHY, MIPI CSI/DSI-2, USB, DisplayPort/HDMI).
- Experience with high-speed board design, signal-integrity evaluation, and debugging.
- Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL and FPGA implementation tools.
- Test automation development skills using Python, Perl, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and tools such as JMP or R.
- Hands-on proficiency with bench equipment: BERT, VNA, oscilloscopes, protocol exercisers/analyzers.
- Exposure to FPGA emulation/prototyping methodologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication, problem solving, and debugging skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with DDR memory interfaces (DDR4, LPDDR4, DDR5), PLLs, DSPs, and MIPI subsystems.
- Experience preparing datasheets and performing production-release characterization.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (the posting specifically requests an Electrical Engineering degree).
