Silicon Test Engineer, Staff
QualcommJob Title
Silicon Test Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Member of the Product Development and Test Engineering team responsible for validation, characterization, and release of system-on-chip (SoC) IPs for high-volume manufacturing in advanced FinFET processes. Work closely with IC design, software, systems and operations to enable manufacturability and production test solutions.
Experience Level
Senior engineer. Minimum qualifications specify: Bachelor's +4 years experience, Master's +3 years, or PhD +2 years in relevant hardware engineering or related work.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include silicon bring-up, test development, and enabling high-volume production test.
- Operate and program Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to validate and debug silicon functionality.
- Develop test hardware and software, test vectors and test plans for production.
- Characterize device performance across PVT and corner conditions; analyze data and report results.
- Release cost-effective production test solutions and support manufacturing ramp.
- Collaborate with IC design, verification, systems, software, and operations teams to resolve issues.
- Use and maintain measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, logic analyzers, network analyzers, etc.).
- Document test procedures, results, and provide technical input for yield improvement.
- Perform hands-on setup, transport, and installation of test equipment as required.
Requirements
List below separates core must-have skills from desirable additions.
Must-have:
- 4+ years hardware engineering or related experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience options).
- Experience with ATE and production test environments; familiarity with Advantest or Teradyne is a plus.
- Practical experience with measurement/test instruments and lab procedures.
- Experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools (2+ years noted).
- Programming/scripting experience (Python, C++, embedded/assembly or similar) for test development and automation.
- Ability to analyze large measurement data sets and draw actionable conclusions.
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of VLSI/digital design, CPU architecture, ATPG/DFT, memory (SRAM/DRAM), high-speed SerDes.
- Experience with CMOS analog and mixed-signal characterization (ADC, DAC, PLL, LDO, LNA, mixers, PAs).
- Experience with data analysis platforms (JMP, NI tools, Exensio) and domain-specific tools (Rohde & Schwarz).
- Familiarity with microcontroller/ARM/Arduino platforms.
Education Requirements
One of the following: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years relevant experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 3+ years experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years experience. Preferred qualifications mention Master’s in Electrical, Electronics, Mecatronica, Computer Science or related fields. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable per the minimum qualifications structure.
