Silicon Test Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Member of the Product Development and Test Engineering team responsible for design validation, characterization, and enabling high-volume manufacturability of SoC products in advanced FinFET processes. Works closely with IC design, software, systems and operations teams to develop and deploy production test solutions.
Primary focus: ATE operation, test hardware/software development, silicon characterization across corners, and delivering cost-effective production tests for mass manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Title indicates a senior role with substantial hands-on silicon/test engineering responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include validation, test development, and production release activities:
- Operate automated test equipment (ATE) to validate and debug silicon functionality.
- Develop test hardware and software for device bring-up and validation.
- Characterize silicon across process, voltage, and temperature corners and capture performance metrics.
- Define and release cost-effective production test solutions for high-volume manufacturing.
- Collaborate with IC design, firmware/software, systems, and operations teams to resolve issues and enable manufacturing.
- Analyze test data and provide findings to improve product quality and yield.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and abilities:
- Hands-on experience with silicon validation, debug, test development, or production testing.
- Experience operating measurement and test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, logic analyzer, time interval analyzer, network analyzer, ATE).
- Ability to develop and debug test hardware/software and integrate with ATE platforms.
- Experience characterizing devices across corners and producing test documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and cross-functional collaboration skills with IC design, software, and operations teams.
- Physical ability to transport and install lab equipment and to use test equipment and computers for extended periods.
Nice-to-have:
- Circuit design experience (digital, analog, RF) and schematic capture/circuit simulation tools.
- Knowledge of digital design, CPU architecture, VLSI and semiconductor process technologies.
- Domain experience: CPU, ATPG/logic test, memory (SRAM, DRAM interfaces), high-speed SerDes, sensor validation.
- Experience with CMOS analog and mixed-signal blocks (ADC, DAC, PLL, LDO, LNA, mixers, power amplifiers).
- Familiarity with Python, C++, Java, assembly, or embedded software for test development.
- Experience with DFT techniques (Scan/ATPG, JTAG, memory BIST), data analysis tools (JMP, NI, Exensio), and ATE vendors (Advantest, Teradyne).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field plus 4+ years of hardware engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 3+ years; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years. Preferred: Master’s in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science or related fields. Equivalent practical experience accepted as stated in the minimum qualifications.
