Job Title

Silicon Test Engineer, Senior

Role Summary

Responsible for validation, characterization, and bringing new silicon to production quality. Works within the hardware engineering/product engineering team to develop ATE hardware and software, test methodologies for advanced packaging, and production test solutions.

The role requires cross-functional collaboration with design, manufacturing, and test engineering to debug devices, characterize performance across process and operating conditions, and release cost-effective mass-production tests.

Experience Level

Senior. Typically requires 3+ years of experience in silicon bring-up, hardware engineering, or high-volume manufacturing (specific minimums vary by degree level).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Validate and debug new silicon during bring-up and characterization phases.
  • Develop ATE hardware and software for device testing and production.
  • Characterize device performance across process, voltage, and temperature conditions.
  • Develop and implement test methodologies for advanced packaging technologies.
  • Release and maintain cost-effective production test solutions for mass production.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and test teams to resolve issues and improve test coverage.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Experience with common test equipment: ATE platforms, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Experience with silicon bring-up and high-volume manufacturing processes (3+ years preferred).
  • Experience with ATE test platforms and familiarity with Advantest 93K SOC test systems, design-for-test (DFT) techniques, and structural tests (Scan/ATPG, JTAG, memory BIST).
  • Familiarity testing CPUs and complex digital/analog/mixed-signal blocks.
  • Programming/scripting skills such as C/C++, Perl, and JMP for test development and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience testing advanced packaging technologies and packaging-specific test methods.
  • Deeper knowledge of VLSI design, semiconductor device physics, ADC/DAC/PLL/Codec performance measurement.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is stated as required. Alternatives listed in the posting include a Master's (preferred) or PhD; posting also specifies degree-plus-experience options (e.g., Bachelor's + 2+ years, Master's + 1+ year). Equivalent practical experience is implicitly accepted via the degree-plus-experience alternatives.
