Silicon Test Engineer (Digital)
QualcommJob Title
Silicon Test Engineer (Digital)
Role Summary
Member of the Product Development and Test Engineering team responsible for validating, characterizing and enabling high-volume manufacturability of digital IP and SoC components in advanced FinFET processes.
Work closely with IC design, software, systems and operations to develop test hardware/software, operate ATE for validation and debugging, characterize silicon across corner conditions, and deliver cost-effective production test solutions.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Posting indicates more than 1 year of product development/test experience and specific 2+ years for schematic capture/simulation tools; typically 1–4 years of relevant experience expected.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include validation, characterization, test development and production handoff.
- Operate automated test equipment (ATE) to validate and debug new silicon and IP functionality.
- Develop test hardware and software (ATE test programs, embedded/firmware) for characterization and production.
- Characterize devices across process, voltage and temperature corners; collect and analyze test data.
- Release production test solutions and work with manufacturing to enable high-volume test flow.
- Collaborate with IC design, software, systems and operations to diagnose issues and implement fixes.
- Use measurement and lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum/time/network analyzers, logic analyzers) for validation and debugging.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills and experience.
- Must-have: Experience in product development, test validation and production activities for System-on-Chip or semiconductor products (digital emphasis).
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with measurement/test equipment and ATE operation or support.
- Must-have: Programming or scripting experience for test and automation (Python, C++, embedded languages, assembly).
- Preferred: Experience with digital/analog circuit design, VLSI technologies, CPU architecture, memory interfaces and high-speed SerDes.
- Preferred: Familiarity with design-for-test (DFT) and structural tests (Scan/ATPG, JTAG, memory BIST).
- Preferred: Experience with Advantest or Teradyne ATE and data-analysis tools (JMP, National Instruments, Exensio) and schematic capture / circuit simulation software.
- Physical demands: frequent travel between sites up to 1/2 mile, lift/install equipment up to ~5 lbs, prolonged monitoring/use of test equipment (>6 hours/day).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science or related field is preferred. No specific certifications were listed; equivalent practical experience is not explicitly stated.
