Silicon Test Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Silicon Test Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the Product Development and Test Engineering team responsible for validation, characterization, and production deployment of silicon IP for 5G products using advanced FinFET process technologies. The role focuses on enabling high-volume manufacturability by developing and operating tests, debug procedures, and production test solutions.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting indicates more than 1 year of relevant product development or test-validation experience; many hires have 1–4 years of experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include silicon validation, test development, and production support.
- Operate ATE and test benches to validate and debug new silicon functionality.
- Develop test hardware and software (ATE programs, embedded tests, automation scripts) for validation and production.
- Characterize devices across process, voltage, temperature corners and produce test vectors and coverage for production release.
- Collaborate with IC design, software, systems, and operations teams to enable manufacturability and yield improvements.
- Analyze test data and provide recommendations to improve test coverage and reduce cost-of-test.
- Maintain and use measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, time interval/network analyzers, etc.).
- Support high-volume production deployment and debug at scale, including ATE maintenance and test-floor troubleshooting.
- Perform physical tasks required by lab and production environments (transport equipment, stand/sit for extended monitoring sessions, monitor test systems for multiple hours per day).
Requirements
Distinct must-have and nice-to-have items extracted from the posting (degrees are summarized separately under Education Requirements).
Must-have:
- Experience in product development, test validation, or high-volume production activities for SoC or semiconductor products (posting indicates >1 year).
- Hands-on experience operating Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and common lab measurement instruments.
- Test hardware and software development skills (scripting/programming such as Python, C++, embedded software or assembly).
- Ability to characterize silicon across corners and produce cost-effective production test solutions.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with DFT/structural tests (Scan/ATPG, JTAG, memory BIST) and ATPG tools.
- Experience with Advantest or Teradyne ATE platforms and data analysis tools (JMP, NI, Exensio, etc.).
- Domain knowledge in CPU architecture, logic test, memory interfaces (SRAM/DRAM), high-speed SerDes, sensor validation, mixed-signal/RF circuits (ADC, DAC, PLL, LDO, LNA, power amplifiers).
- Experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools (posting cites 2+ years as preferred).
- Familiarity with ARM, microcontroller platforms, or embedded system architectures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science or related fields is preferred. The posting allows related-field or equivalent practical experience.
