Job Title

Silicon Software Engineer - System and AI (RDSS Intern)

Role Summary

Internship role on the CPU/system software team working across pre-silicon simulation/emulation and physical hardware for server, embedded, and automotive products. The role combines system bring-up, firmware and platform integration with application of GenAI techniques to improve engineering workflows.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (RDSS program).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system bring-up, debugging, and improving engineering workflows using modern tools and GenAI techniques.

  • Develop and debug system software across pre-silicon simulation/emulation and physical hardware environments.
  • Work on simulator/emulator/platform bring-up, chip-level firmware development, integration, and validation.
  • Apply GenAI techniques and tools (prompt engineering, agentic/graph-based workflows) to automate and optimize engineering tasks such as evidence retrieval and debug triage.
  • Validate AI-generated results against authoritative engineering evidence and ensure engineers retain final technical decisions.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and global teams and produce clear technical documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical and professional skills.

  • Ability to decompose ambiguous, complex engineering problems into manageable, testable tasks.
  • Strong programming skills in C and working knowledge of Python or another scripting language.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems, computer architecture, and ARM-based platforms.
  • Practical familiarity with modern GenAI concepts and tools and ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs critically.
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English for collaboration with global teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • System-level debugging experience (logs, traces, hardware-software interactions).
  • Experience with pre-silicon simulation/emulation, platform bring-up, chip firmware, device drivers, or post-silicon debugging.
  • Experience building debug tools, test infrastructure, workflow automation, or developer productivity solutions.
  • Experience evaluating GenAI outputs for evidence grounding, data provenance, observability, or failure analysis.

Education Requirements

MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related software/hardware engineering major.
