Silicon Power & Characterization Lead
TenstorrentJob Title
Silicon Power & Characterization Lead
Role Summary
Lead post-silicon power measurement and characterization efforts for high-performance SoCs. Own measurement strategy, lab infrastructure, automation, and correlation of silicon results with pre-silicon models. Act as a technical liaison across architecture, design, validation, and systems teams to ensure power and performance targets are met.
Experience Level
Senior / Principal-level engineer. The posting expects 8+ years of relevant silicon power analysis and characterization experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing silicon power analysis and feeding findings back into design and modeling.
- Define and execute end-to-end post-silicon power measurement strategies across operating modes, voltages, frequencies, and workloads.
- Design, build, and maintain lab infrastructure, automated measurement workflows, and data pipelines for repeatable power characterization.
- Correlate silicon measurements to pre-silicon models (RTL, gate-level, sign-off) and perform root-cause analysis with design and modeling teams.
- Characterize power across PVT corners and collaborate with bring-up and validation teams to develop test content and debug power anomalies.
- Document results, communicate technical findings to cross-functional stakeholders, and recommend design or modeling changes to meet specifications.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.
- Deep practical knowledge of digital and mixed-signal power domains, including DVFS, leakage vs. dynamic power, and power gating.
- Extensive lab experience with oscilloscopes, current probes, power analyzers, and source-measure units (SMUs).
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Perl, MATLAB or similar) for measurement control and data analysis.
- Experience correlating silicon power data to pre-silicon estimates and refining power estimation methodologies.
- Experience with PVT characterization, margining, variability analysis, and debugging power-related anomalies during bring-up.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical investigations and communicate clear, actionable findings.
- Nice to have: prior SoC or RISC-V platform experience and familiarity with sign-off flows and power modeling tools.
Education Requirements
Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (the posting specifies a Master’s or PhD). The posting also indicates a Principal-level expectation of 8+ years of experience.
