Job Title
Silicon Photonics Technology Development & Integration Engineer — New College Graduate (2027)
Role Summary
Entry-level engineering role supporting 300mm silicon photonics technology development and integration at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 8 in Malta, NY. The engineer will own a technology integration module from development and qualification through customer engagement and production.
Main responsibilities include defining improvement experiments, analyzing technical and inline data to improve yield and process stability, coordinating across device, process, packaging, test, reliability, yield, and manufacturing teams, and supporting customer milestones and production ramp.
Experience Level
Entry-level — New college graduate (2027). This role targets recent graduates entering full-time employment.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on process integration, qualification, yield and quality improvement, and cross-functional execution.
- Own a Silicon Photonics technology integration module: prioritize projects, coordinate the extended team, define experiments, and manage hardware disposition.
- Develop and qualify Silicon Photonics process flows and I/O integration solutions in collaboration with device, process, packaging, test, reliability, yield, and manufacturing teams.
- Analyze inline and electrical data to detect line issues, drive containment and resolution, reduce defectivity, and improve process stability (Cp/Cpk), yield, and efficiency.
- Support new production technologies and customer milestones; drive cost reductions via process convergence, expense elimination, and yield/test improvements.
- Define and execute experiments (DOE) and use structured problem-solving to validate improvements.
- Perform work in accordance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) requirements.
Requirements
Key qualifications and attributes for success in the role.
-
Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal).
-
Must-have: Ability to work in a semiconductor fab environment and follow EHS&S procedures.
-
Preferred: Prior internship or co-op experience in semiconductors or related fields.
-
Preferred: Coursework, research, or project experience in silicon photonics, optics, semiconductor processing, device physics, or process integration.
-
Preferred: Familiarity with data analysis, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), or structured problem-solving methods.
-
Preferred: Demonstrated leadership, strong written and verbal communication, project management, planning and organizational skills.
-
